Bayahibe is a small fisherman’s village that has kept its charm intact. It is located in the southeast of the Dominican Republic, in an idyllic setting right by a protected bay, and part of it is in the National Park of the East.
Bayahibe boasts paradisiac beaches of fine, white sand and turquoise waters, plus a rich seabed. The town has plenty of restaurants and places where you can get local and international foods.
Diving is probably the most common tourist attraction in Bayahibe and it is the country’s best destination for those wishing to practice this activity. Bayahibe benefits from good weather and from the calm, crystal-clear waters of the Caribbean, plus the incredible reefs with their shallow waters near the coast. These rich, colorful reefs are home to a great variety of marine species where you can see eagle rays, manatees, whales, sharks, dolphins, turtles and a lot more, including the remains of a shipwreck, those of the San Jorge.
If you love deep sea fishing you’re at the right place to practice this sport, because here you can rent a boat and go out to sea. But if you simply enjoy riding the waves you can hire the gear to go windsurfing or paddle surfing.
Bayahibe is the best starting point to visit the islands of Catalina and Saona, as well as for exploring the huge natural reserve in the National Park of the East. You can explore this archaeological site that serves as the habitat of thousands of species of flora and fauna, some of which are endemic of this region. The delicate ecosystems include the dry forest, marine prairies, mangroves, rocky coasts and a coral reef out in the sea. There are sea turtles, doves and other wildlife. Make it a point to visit this island and swim in its transparent waters.
Near Bayahibe is La Romana, the ideal destination for golf lovers, offering impressive scenarios to play this sport. Some of the courses have been designed by Pete Dye.
Bayahibe is a paradise of natural beauty and privileged weather where you can indulge in many different activities.
