We all love a good beach bar, known as a chiringuito in Spain! These small beach bars and restaurants, found all along the Spanish coast, are a physical token of the good life. There is nothing like emerging from the sea and walking up to the chiringuito and ordering a nice, cold beer or sitting down to eat sardines or Spanish omelette with a pitcher of sangría!
Beach bars in Spain have become more sophisticated over the years and many of them enjoy a cult following among visitors, either for their perfect beachside location, the chill out music, the exquisite cuisine, the presence of the rich and famous or even for their luxurious Balinese beds and cots where you can enjoy a spectacular sunset.
Andalusia, the coast of Levante and the Balearic Islands, especially Ibiza, probably feature the most trendy beach bars and restaurants in Spain. In many cases, the chiringuitos are open all night long, organizing parties that last till dawn. In Ibiza some of them even have famous DJs and the partying can go on round the clock!
There is nothing like the feeling of drinking a cold beer in your swimsuit, barefooted and in the shade at a bar by the sea.
So if you want to experience the real thing and enjoy fried fish (pescaíto frito) by the seashore, make your way toward the Spanish coast!
One of the best: the Blue Bar is one of the most famous chiringuitos in Spain, frequented by many celebrities. Opened in the 1960s, for 50 years the Blue Bar has delighted locals and visitors at Migjorn Beach, on the island of Formentera, and it surely well worth a visit.
