Samaná is a province of the Dominican Republic spanning the entire namesake peninsula, a beautiful part of the island that was discovered by Columbus in his first voyage to the Americas. It is known for the Samaná Bay and the palm tree beaches, plus the Sierra of Samaná, a stretch of hills setting the direction for the coastal breeze. Samaná provides an impressive view thanks to the sharp contrast between the green hillsides and the white sand. It is a large peninsula covering an area of over 850 sq. km, bigger than many Caribbean islands, meaning there is a lot to see, including the most important coconut plantation in the world. In a romantic getaway to Samaná there are many activities available for couples; the area has a great tourist potential but it is not as saturated as other zones on the island, meaning that you can enjoy twice as much on a romantic vacation.
Samaná features long beaches of white sand washed by the warm, crystal-clear waters of the Atlantic, with palm and coconut trees right by the shore—the stuff postcards are made of! Although all the beaches in this region have their appeal, the best known are Playa Las Galeras, Playa Bacardí, Playa Las Terrenas, Playa Punta Popy and of course Playa Rincón, included among the 10 most beautiful beaches in the world.
Just as romantic as the beautiful beaches is going on an excursion on horseback, rising up on the mountainside to the famous waterfall known as Salto del Limón. The view from up there is spectacular but the trip on horseback through breath-taking paths is equally unforgettable.
Before supper at one of the many quaint restaurants you will surely enjoy the sunset sipping a typical Caribbean cocktail. There is plenty to choose from on the night-time entertainment scene, with many bars and discotheques serving music and drinks for as long as you can manage to keep dancing and enjoying yourself!
