If you’re on vacation in the Dominican Republic there is an excursion you have to go on: the incredible Salto del Limón waterfall. This waterfall is visited by thousands of travelers from all over the world, both to see the waterfall and to enjoy the pleasant, beautiful landscape in the trek up to the waterfall. The landscape surrounding it is outstanding, with little houses painted in lively colors that harmonize with the streets and nature. On the way there you will see little plots of farmland surrounded by large coconut groves, and you can also see how people use the rivers and other traditional items showing how the inhabitants have adapted to the land surrounding them.
The waterfall is in the midst of the forest vegetation, with plenty of palm trees at lower heights, adding to the intense green hues of the Samaná mountain range. The Salto del Limón can be reached on foot by walking up the path known as El Café or on horseback. The latter is the best option because of the sights afforded by the natural miradors overlooking the green hills on the horizon.
When reaching the top of the path you’ll see that it was worth the journey. An impressive 55-meter waterfall will leave you in awe. Water comes out at three different points and falls down a greenish wall covered by hundreds of ferns that thrive in the humidity. Down below there is a natural swimming hole with cool, crystal clear water where you can take a relaxing swim that you’ll never forget!
