If you are in Jamaica, taking in the sun or under a parasol at Doctor’s Cave near Montego Bay, or on Turtle Beach in Ocho Rios, two of the best beaches on the northern coast, remember that Columbus set foot on one of them on May 5, 1494 and exclaimed: “This is the most beautiful island my eyes have ever seen.” Ocho Rios is the deformation of the term chorreros (waterfall) that the Spaniards gave this place in the 15th century.
Everything in Jamaica is teeming with life, an explosion of vivid blues and greens. Especially green, filled as it is with rain forests that are nearly impossible to explore—but no, you can definitely go in and explore the forest!
Ocho Rios has a theme park in the jungle called Mystic Mountain, where you can take a ride on a zip-glide, go trekking, travel above the trees in an old cable car rescued from snowy mountains of a distant past. And you can especially practice bobsleigh in the exuberant rain forest. Bobsleigh may seem like a strange sport on a Caribbean island but this is Jamaica, the homeland of the famous team of four men who competed in bobsleigh at the 1988 Winter Olympics. The four Jamaican bobsledders became famous a few years later thanks to the film Cool Runnings. What did you expect? Fasten your seatbelt, grab on tight and get ready for a thrilling ride through the rain forest. Besides the magnificent adrenalin rush you’ll enjoy magnificent views of the rain forest at over 550 feet. You’d better not miss out on this one!
